Rest in peace, Gilbert Isom

We are saddened to hear of Gilbert's recent passing.

The GFA is saddened to hear of the passing of long-serving local referee, Gilbert Isom.

Gilbert first began to referee in 1958 in the Suburban League before moving on to the Western league.

His career highlight was running the line at the John Atyeo Testimonial match held at Ashton Gate in 1966.

He would later become Chairman of the Bristol Referees' Association in 1969, standing down in 1993 to become President.

In 1982, Gilbert was awarded a long service meritorious award to recognize his work with the Bristol Branch of the Referees' Association. In 2012, he would go on to earn further recognition with an FA Long Service Award commemorating the 50 years of service he gave to the game.

The GFA is grateful for Gilbert's many contributions over the years, and our thoughts are with Gilbert's family and friends at this difficult time.
