Grass Pitches
enhancing and Maintaining Grass Pitches for Long-Term Success
At Gloucestershire FA, we recognise the importance of high-quality playing surfaces in providing a great football experience for everyone involved. Whether you're a player, coach, or groundskeeper, maintaining grass pitches is essential to ensure the game remains accessible and enjoyable at all levels.
PitchPower
The Football Foundation has developed the PitchPower web app, which enables you to easily conduct pitch inspections from your phone. After completing your inspection, you will receive a personalised report, including a Pitch Quality Standard rating (Poor, Basic, Good or Advanced) and detailed guidance for improvement. If you need assistance with your PitchPower inspection, you can request a Support Pitch Advisor to guide you through the process.
Many clubs across Gloucestershire are already benefiting from the insights provided by the Pitch Power tool. Use the link to the right to take the first step toward improving your playing surfaces!
Once your report is complete, you can apply for Grass Pitch Maintenance Funding of up to £3,600 per pitch per year to help complete the recommended works and to see your pitch rating improve.
Add yourself to PitchPower – You’ll need to create a login to pitchpower.org.uk and join your organisation. Add the relevant home ground as a site and then add the football pitches. Make sure you have it downloaded on your phone.
Completing your PitchPower assessment
Once you’ve completed the above steps A to F, you are now able to go out to the pitches with a phone, measuring tape and spade or soil sampling equipment to undertake the physical assessment.
During the process, you will need to enter some of the information you have collated, so make sure you have this to hand either mentally or jotted down somewhere so you can enter the details as you progress through the assessment. Each pitch should take around 30 mins to complete.
Once you have completed your assessment for each pitch, you should receive your report from the Grounds Management Association within 21 days (this may be longer if the GMA is dealing with lots of applications at the same time).
