Safety

Ensuring the safety of goalposts is essential to protect players, coaches, and spectators at all levels of football. Sadly, there have been a number of serious injuries and fatalities in recent years due to unsafe or improperly used goalposts. To prevent future incidents, The FA, in collaboration with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), the Health & Safety Executive, and the British Standards Institution, has established important guidelines for the safe use and management of goalposts.

Key Safety Guidelines

Proper Installation: Always ensure that goalposts are installed correctly according to manufacturer instructions and securely anchored to prevent tipping or collapse.

Regular Inspections: Goalposts should be regularly inspected for signs of wear, damage, or instability, especially before matches or training sessions.

Safe Handling: Portable goalposts must be moved with care, ensuring they are carried by a sufficient number of people and never dragged across the ground.

Age-Appropriate Usage: As specified by FA guidelines, ensure that the goalposts are appropriate for the age group using them.

Do Not Modify Goalposts: Never modify, alter, or tamper with the design of goalposts. Only use those that meet current safety standards.

Everyone Plays a Role: Whether you're a player, coach, volunteer, or groundskeeper, everyone involved in football has a responsibility to follow these safety guidelines. Proper use of goalposts can help prevent accidents and ensure a safe environment for everyone involved in the game.
